7.23 Baptism in the Spirit is for the infilling of the Spirit of Christ

Traditionally, some parts of the Christian world prefers to use the term “filled with the Spirit” while others prefer to use the term, “baptism in the Spirit".

Today, we will show you that they refer to the same thing. The difference in terminology is more on semantics. The term “baptized with the Holy Spirit” was used by Jesus.

(Acts 1:4-5, 8)
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for THE PROMISE of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be BAPTIZED with the HOLY SPIRIT not many days from now.”

So what happened when the disciples in the upper room were baptized with the Holy Spirit? Let us fast forward to Acts chapter 2. It describes the experience of the baptism in the Spirit that Jesus mentioned earlier. It says that the disciples were FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (v.4). Therefore, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

(Acts 2:1-4)
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Today, all Christians desire to have more of Jesus. When that happens, we will be more like Jesus. To have more of Jesus means that He is the Lord of our lives. When He reigns in us, we bear fruit to holiness. How can we have more of Jesus? There is only one way to have more of Jesus. It is to have more of the Spirit of Jesus in us. It is to be filled with the Holy Spirit through the baptism in the Spirit. This is why Jesus commanded His disciples not to depart from Jerusalem without first receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Today, we need this experience as much as the early disciples needed it.
