7.15 Receiving fresh revelations from the Holy Spirit

(Ephesians 1:17-19)
…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that YOU MAY KNOW what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe…

The fact is that Jesus has accomplished everything on the cross for mankind. He has redeemed us from sin and the curses of sin. In Him, we are righteous. In Him, we have been blessed with every blessing given by the Holy Spirit. The whole Christian journey is about discovering what He has done for us. When we KNOW the truth, our faith arises to receive from Him.

In the Old Covenant, Jesus had not gone to the cross. Israel was trying to attain to all their promises through keeping the works of the law. They had to earn their righteousness and their blessings. We don’t live under that covenant anymore. We live in the New Covenant that Jesus came to establish with His own blood on the cross. This New Covenant is built on better promises.

As such, the challenge for the believer to KNOW all that Christ has purchased for us. Paul did not pray to God to give any believer anything at all. He only prayed to God for the believer to receive the Holy Spirit – called the Spirit of wisdom and revelation – to help us KNOW all that belongs to us. These include the hope of our calling, the inheritance we have and the power that is at work in us.

Today, when you read the Bible, don’t focus on what you have to do. Focus on what He has done for you. When you know what He has done for you, and what He continues to do in you, you will end up doing the right things by the Spirit instead of the flesh.

We lack no good thing in Christ. If we lack anything, it is the knowledge of what we already have in Christ. This explains why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to give us a revelation of Christ.

When you read the Bible, depend on the Holy Spirit who is our Teacher. Let Him open up the Bible to us. Let Him cause the Bible to come alive to us. Let Him tell you about Jesus. Let Him tell you what you have in Christ. Let Him give you fresh revelations of His Word. Be prepared to receive fresh revelations from the Holy Spirit.
