7.11 Receiving new thoughts from the Holy Spirit
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
In the Old Covenant, Israel had to follow the law written on stones. It was cold and hard. It was external. It did not produce life. The law did not lift a finger to help anyone keep it. The Bible calls it the ministry of death (2 Cor 3:7). This it because it brought condemnation, curses and death to those who broke it.
The law was given to show people that they could not keep it. This is because the carnal mind is enmity against God and it cannot be subject to the law of God. In short, the sinner born in sin cannot keep God’s laws.
(Romans 8:7)
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
Something happened when we received Jesus. The Holy Spirit came to live inside us. He begins to put his laws on our minds. This means that He begins to give us the knowledge of His will from within so that we can follow them. He begins to renew our minds to the knowledge of God.
The following verse tells us that the Holy Spirit was given to give us the knowledge of the things that have been freely given to us by God. He tells us all that belongs to us in the New Covenant. Wow! Isn’t it great to have the Holy Spirit instructing our minds? Because he puts His thoughts into our minds, the Bible says that we have the mind of Christ!
(1 Cor 2:12, 16)
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Would you like to have the mind of Christ, to have the thoughts of Christ, and the instructions of Christ? Well, you already have it because the Spirit is in you. You only need to start walking with the Holy Spirit in order to experience its reality. You have a beautiful and empowered mind in Christ.
