7.9 Experience the reaffirmation of the Holy Spirit that we are sons of God

After Jesus had gone to heaven to present His blood to the Father, He sat down on the right hand of the Father. He received the Holy Spirit to be poured down to this earth in indwell every believer. Can you see that the Holy Spirit was sent to bears witness to the finished Work of Christ? The Holy Spirit in us is proof of Jesus’ finished work.

To all of us who receives Jesus, the Holy Spirit came to live in us to bear witness in our hearts that the work is finished. Earlier, we said that He convicts us of righteousness. He tells us that we are righteous because Jesus has washed away our sins. He tells us that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

Today, we will share another powerful truth that the Holy Spirit reaffirms in our hearts. He tells us that we are no longer slave or servants – but we are now the sons of God! John 1:12 says that as many as received Jesus, He gave the right to become children of God. It is a reality but many do not know it. So the role of the Holy Spirit is to bear witness in our hearts that we are children of God.

(Romans 8:15-16)
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…

He gives you the inner-knowing and the inner-affirmation. He causes us to cry our “Abba Father” or “Daddy God” in the most affectionate way possible. Today, if we go to Israel, we will hear the children crying out affectionately to the fathers, “Abba, Abba.”

So why are there Christians who see God as a fearful judge? Why are there Christians who keep a distance from what they see as a fearful God? It breaks the Father’s heart because He has already reconciled us to Himself through Christ. This view of God is completely opposite of what the Holy Spirit is telling us today.

The reason is because Christians are still not established in the truths of the New Covenant established by Jesus. They are still walking by the old laws of commandments instead of the new law of the Spirit in their hearts. They have not fully understood that things have changed for the better after the cross. When we walk in fear and condemnation, it short circuits the leading of the Spirit. The voice of condemnation drowns His gentle voice of affirmation.

Today, if we desire to enjoy intimacy with God, we have to walk on the basis of the cross. We are to walk by faith in the gift of righteousness. Then we will start experiencing the leading of the Spirit. We can hear the gentle affirmation of the Spirit in our hearts that we are sons of God. What a wonderful way to live the Christian life.
