7.21 Testimony: Kathryn Kuhlman – Communion with the Holy Spirit

Kathryn Kuhlman was the leading female evangelist of the 20th century. Thousands of people were healed by the Holy Spirit through her ministry. The miraculous was so evident in her meetings that even the worst skeptic would leave in bewilderment, and many believed that Jesus is still alive.

Her ministry shifted the focus of the Church of Christ from the gifts of the Spirit to the Giver of the gifts, the Holy Spirit. Before each meeting, she opened her spirit, soul and body to the Holy Spirit’s ministry. She often referred to the Holy Spirit as “my best Friend” and stated that He was her teacher, “the greatest Teacher in the whole world”. She enjoyed a close communion with the Holy Spirit.

Though she was well known for her healing ministry, few knew of her personal struggles in her personal life. She had married a charming but dishonest man who almost ruined her ministry and de-railed her calling. She came to a point where she had to give up the man she loved for the God who truly loved her. Her life was one that was fully dependent on God and she came to know the Holy Spirit as her best Friend. In her lonely moments, she found communion with the Holy Spirit. She said that the Holy Spirit was more real to her than the thousands of people whom she saw.

The first time a testimony was given of someone being healed in a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting was in 1947, when she began teaching a series on the Holy Spirit. The woman who was healed of a tumor said, “You were preaching on the Holy Spirit, telling us that in Him lay the resurrection power. I felt the power of God flow through my body. Although not a word had been spoken about healing the sick, I knew instantly and definitely that my body had been healed. So sure was I of this that I went to my doctor today and had my healing verified.”
