3.5 Jesus came to reveal God’s love
There was a judge in a small town, whose son appeared in court for a speeding offence. As a judge, the father executed justice by imposing the maximum fine on his own son. But the son did not have the means to pay. The father came down from his judgment seat, and paid the fine for his son. In doing so, he executed justice as a judge and he demonstrated his love as a father. He had to do his job righteously but his heart was really with his son.
God’s justice demanded for our death. We have been found guilty. The only way to satisfy the justice of God would be to send His Son Jesus to take our place. It would cost God dearly because Jesus is His dearest and best. If God loved us any less, He would not have sent Jesus. He could have left us to perish without hope. Now we truly understand this verse - For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
If the value of an item is measured by the price that one pays for it, then it simply means that you are priceless to God because Jesus was priceless to God. It takes a lifetime to understand the vastness of God's love that knows no bounds.
Jesus has revealed the perfect love of the Father. As judgment for sin has been exhausted on Jesus, there is none left for the believer. As a result, there is no more fear of judgment which involves torment.
(1 John 4:17-18)
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Perfect love has removed all fear. Today, he who fears has not been made perfect in love. He who has been made perfect in love has no fear.
Today, we can come to God as a child would come to his/her father. We can feel secure with Him. We can be loved by Him. We can truly know that “God is love”. We can enjoy intimate fellowship, and be free to express ourselves in worship. We are at ease because we wear Jesus’ robe of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10).
