2.26 Improving your sensitivity to the leading of the Spirit
(1 Cor 14:14)
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays…
Recently, Col Stringer, a well known Bible teacher from Australia shared this testimony. He woke up one morning and found that someone had crashed into the front wall/gate of his house, resulting in damage. It would cause a lot of money to repair, unless he could find the culprit. But how on earth would he know who the culprit was?
He prayed and told God that God knew. He asked God to show him. He prayed in the spirit for 5 hours and he heard from the Lord – it was the garbage truck driver. So he went over to their office and told them that their driver had caused the damage. They denied it vehemently. He then asked to see the truck. God was right and they paid the bill.
When we meditate on the Word, we are feeding our spirit-man and causing it to grow stronger. The word is spiritual food to our spirit. When our spirit is strong, it is also more sensitive.
(Matthew 4:4)
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
When our spirit-man is well fed and well exercised, the transmissions of the Holy Spirit to our spirits will become clearer. Our perception of the inner witness and the inward voice will be stronger.
When we constantly follow the inner witness and the inward voice, our spirit will also grow to be more sensitive through practice. A person who constantly ignores these gentle promptings will become less conscious of them.
