2.20 The inward voice

In addition to the “green light/red light” sensation of the inner witness, the Holy Spirit also guides us through the inward voice. Heb 8:10 says that He will put His laws (His perfect will) in our minds and write them on our hearts.

(Heb 8:10)
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will PUT My laws IN THEIR MIND and WRITE them on THEIR HEARTS; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

The inward voice goes beyond the yes/no sensation of the inner witness. It is more conversational and descriptive. The Holy Spirit, who lives in us, writes His perfect will in our hearts which is also transmitted to our minds. We pick it up as the inward voice from our spirit-man. In this manner, our hearts will have the passion for God’s will and our minds will have the knowledge of His perfect will. This promise is for all believers in the New Covenant in Christ.

The inward voice is like a still small voice within us. It may be like a thought that comes to our mind from our spirit-man. It could also be like an inner knowing, a spiritual intuition or a spiritual perception. It could also be a desire that comes from the Holy Spirit (i.e. you felt led in your spirit to do something).

Earlier, we shared that the Holy Spirit will show us things to come, teach us, guide us into all truth, bring things to our remembrance, and take what Jesus has and declare it to us. How does the Holy Spirit communicate all these wonderful things to us? He does it through the inward voice and the inner witness.
