2.13 The Holy Spirit will tell us things to come

The Holy Spirit knows our future and He can tell us things to come. He does this to give us guidance or to forewarn us of dangers ahead.

(John 16:8-13, NKJV)
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will TELL YOU THINGS TO COME.

In the Old Testament, prophets could receive guidance for the future when the Holy Spirit came upon them. The ordinary people did not have such a privilege.

However, in the New Covenant, we can receive guidance for the future directly from the Holy Spirit. This is because the Holy Spirit indwells the New Covenant believer. For example, Paul perceived that the voyage to Rome would end in disaster and much loss (Acts 27:10). The people did not heed him, and the disaster happened as the Holy Spirit had forewarned.

There will be occasions when we need guidance for the future. The Holy Spirit is able to show you things to come. When it has come to pass, you would be in awe of God for He is an omniscient God.
