2.14 Testimony – The Holy Spirit forewarned me about the passing away of a family member

For many years, my grandmother was bedridden and cared for in a nursing home in Kuala Lumpur. Being based in Singapore, I only saw her no more than twice a year. One day, I had a prompting from the Lord that her time was short. He placed the urgency within me to share the gospel with her. From the remote corners of my mind, the Holy Spirit brought her to my immediate attention.

As she understood only the Cantonese dialect, which I am not proficient in, I never quite figured out how I would share the gospel. I trusted that if the Holy Spirit gave the prompting, He would also open the way.

I never imagined that any of my friends in Singapore could speak Cantonese as most of them spoke the Hokkien dialect. One day, I asked my friend, Eunice if she could speak in Cantonese. To my surprise, she said yes. I asked if she could share the gospel in Cantonese, and again she said yes. She was truly God-sent.

So I made a trip to KL. I got Eunice to speak to her on a mobile phone. She heard the gospel and received the Lord. It was truly the grace of God.

Six months later, I received news from my sister-in-law, a medical doctor that grandma’s health was failing and was told that she may not make it through the week. All the family members were was asked to return immediately on that weekend. I prayed and the Holy Spirit told me that I did not have to go back that weekend - everything was under control. I had to be certain because if I heard wrongly, I may miss the opportunity to see her for the last time.

I made arrangements to go back the following weekend. True enough, her condition improved, and I met her the following weekend. Unlike the prior weekend where a lot of my family members were around, I found myself alone with her. I took the opportunity to strengthen her faith and to pray with her. I committed her to the Lord. A few days later, she went home to be with the Lord. I understood why the Holy Spirit delayed my trip.

I am grateful that the Holy Spirit forewarned me and guided me to the right course of action.
