10.9 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
but save us from the Evil One.”
There is almost a fear of temptation because of the lack of power to overcome. The preference is to avoid the temptation altogether.
But there is a difference in the New Covenant. Jesus who overcame the temptations came to live in the New Covenant believer. Therefore the believer now has the power to go through the temptation and to overcome through Christ.
Previously, the focus was to be delivered FROM temptation, now the focus is to be delivered OUT OF temptation.
(2 Pet 2:9)
…then the Lord knows how to DELIVER THE GODLY OUT OF TEMPTATIONS and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment…
The Bibles says that God will allow us to be tempted, but with the temptation, there is a way of escape that YOU MAY BE ABLE TO BEAR IT. There is a way to get through the temptation triumphantly, just as Christ did.
(1 Cor 10:13)
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that YOU MAY BE ABLE TO BEAR IT.
Today, we have the Holy Spirit in us. The Spirit was poured down on the Day of Pentecost. He is Christ in us. He is the power within us. We are to yield to His power. We are to walk in the Spirit – to depend on Him. When we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
(Gal 5:16)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Today, you can be victorious when tempted. When the going gets tough, stop fighting on your own strength but start to walk in the Spirit. Therefore, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
