9.85 Testimony - It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure
A dear brother shared about how he had picked up our book from a bookshop and that the book had opened his eyes to revelations he had never known in his many years as a Christian. The book is helping him to fight his fight of faith.
Each time I hear such testimonies, I never fail to be amazed at what God has done, especially because I know that it was God who worked in me both “to will” and “to do” for His good pleasure. My wife who knows me well could tell you that it was the Lord’s work – not mine.
When my parents received the Lord in 2005, the Holy Spirit told me to write a book for them – to put down truths that I had experienced through the years. That was the last thing on my mind. I didn’t even know where to start. I was happily resting in the Lord.
But the Lord was working within me. He had put such a strong desire in my heart to fulfill it. It would have been harder to do nothing. I didn’t even have to try to do. I just had to walk in the path He has prepared for me.
So I embarked on the project not knowing how to fulfill it. The Holy Spirit guided me step by step. The first time I met with the publisher, he found out that I was a CPA by training. He said, “I did not know that accountants can write books?” He was right. So I told him that it was by God’s grace.
For two years, God worked in me not only “to will” but “to do”. He instructed my mind, He led my hands, and He guided me. He brought things to my remembrance. Though I worked hard for two years, I didn’t feel that I was the person working. I thought I was the delivery boy for the Lord.
Finally the book was completed. If I had done it on my own strength, it would have been limited. But since God worked through me, the book is not subject to my human limitations and God is able to bless people through it.
Isn’t Christianity exciting? You achieve much more by simply resting in God. You get more done when you don’t work – and you allow Him to work in you both “to will” and “to do”. And you don’t get burnt out. You get to experience His power. This is the New Covenant living.
