9.82 Who is the overcoming Christian?

We have talked about the “works of God” and the “will of God” in the New Covenant. Today, we will address the question of “who is the overcoming Christian” and “how we can overcome in life?” This is an important question. We are often told that we must overcome in life but we do not know how. I have not met a Christian who has done well enough to overcome every circumstance in life.

The answer that the Bible presents to us is very different from our own ideas. We often think of our own ability to battle our way through and to be a good Christian.

But the Bible tells us that the key has nothing to do with what we do. It has to do with what Christ has done on the cross. Through His death on the cross, He is able to indwell us and we become a New Creation in Christ. All we need to do is to believe in Him.

(1 John 5:4-5)
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

So who is he who overcomes the world? Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. How do we overcome the world? The victory that overcomes the world is our faith. The one who overcomes the world is the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Again, this answer is consistent with the law of faith in the New Covenant.

We are born of God with the incorruptible seed of Christ. The person who overcame the world has come to live in us. As we believe in Him, we allow the Overcomer to live through us.

(1 Peter 1:22-23)
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever…

Today, if you believe in Jesus, if you are born again, you are an overcomer. You can experience the overcoming life by walking in faith and by allowing Jesus to live through you. The victory that overcomes is your faith. This is the law of faith.
