9.81 What is the ultimate will of God that you must fulfill?
In the last lesson, we answered one of the most important questions for the believer. We showed that the ultimate work of God for us was to believe in Jesus who fulfilled every work of God.
Today, we will answer another important question – what is the WILL OF GOD that we must fulfill? Everyone wants to fulfill God’s will, but what is God’s ultimate will?
Before we talk about God’s will for us, let us talk about God’s will for Jesus. You see, in the Old Covenant, to do God’s will was to keep the law perfectly. But no one attained to it. The world could not be saved through the law.
So God sent Jesus to this earth to fulfill His will. Jesus fulfilled every requirement of God and died for the world. In doing so, He delivered us from the first Covenant of Law and established for us the second Covenant of Grace. Through His grace, we would be sanctified through His offering on the cross. We would be born again as a new creation in Christ.
(Heb 10:8-10)
8 Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He TAKES AWAY THE FIRST that He may ESTABLISH THE SECOND. 10By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
So if Jesus did everything on the cross, and we did nothing with regards to our sanctification and salvation, then what is left for us to? What is God’s will for us to fulfill?
Again it goes back to the “law of faith”. The only way to receive what Christ has accomplished on the cross is through faith. We are to believe in Jesus and what He has done for us.
Jesus told the Pharisees the ultimate will of God for the believer – it is to believe in Him. This is a powerful verse that sum up the will of God for all mankind.
(John 6:40)
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life…
It is not about doing – it is about believing. Today, you can fulfill God’s will by simple believing. This is the law of faith in the New Covenant.
