9.78 The LAW OF FAITH in the New Covenant

For the next two weeks, I would like to share on the power of FAITH in the New Covenant. To recap, the Old Covenant focused on keeping the Law of Moses for righteousness and as a way of life. But in the New Covenant, the focus is on FAITH in Jesus Christ for righteousness and as a way of life.

Since the Bible contrasts the two systems of law versus faith so clearly, it would be very important to understand about living by faith in the New Covenant.

(Romans 3:21-22)
But now the righteousness of God APART FROM THE LAW is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through FAITH in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.

In fact the Bible says that man is justified by faith apart from the works (deeds) of the law. It tells us that we are under a new system called “FAITH”. Playing with the words, Paul says that we are no longer under the “law of works” but the “LAW OF FAITH”. We are under the system where everything works on the basis of believing in Jesus.

(Romans 3:27-28)
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the LAW OF FAITH. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

What is this “law of faith”? What can happen when we have faith? How are our lives transformed through faith? How do we live on the basis of faith? How did people live in the Bible before the law? We seek to answer some of these questions.

Once I was talking to a dear brother about the goodness of God. He countered me, saying that there is more to salvation than just having faith in the grace of God. He said that we also had to do the works of God to be saved. He also said that we also had to do the will of God to be saved. He also said that we needed to be an overcoming Christian in order to be saved.

I asked him to define the works of God and if had done the works of God sufficiently to be saved? I also asked him if he knew what the specific will of God was for his life and if he had endeavored to keep the will of God perfectly. Finally, I asked him if he would consider himself an overcoming Christian against the circumstances of life.

For that matter, how many Christians even understand the will of God to perform His works conscientiously, and to walk as an overcomer on a daily basis? It seemed like only a few Christians would truly meet the three criteria to be saved. Would you agree with me?. Let us find the answers from the Bible on the “works of God”, the “will of God” and how to be an “overcomer” in life.
