9.84 It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure
(Phil 2:12-13)
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 FOR IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU both TO WILL and TO DO for His good pleasure.
This verse tells us that we are to work out our salvation. It does not say that we have to work for our salvation. Salvation was a free gift received by faith. When we got saved, the incorruptible seed of Christ came to live in us. The live of God came into us. We are to allow this life to be worked out, or manifested out from within us.
Verse 13 says that it is God who WORKS in you both TO WILL and TO DO for His good pleasure. Isn’t it amazing? When you do the works of God by believing in Him who did every work, He begins to WORK in us. Notice that it is not our works but His work in us.
Then when we do His will by believing in Him who fulfilled the Father’s will, He begins to put His will in you in order to do for His pleasure.
What an awesome verse. In one verse, it tells us that under the New Covenant, it is God who WORKS in you both to WILL and to DO. The focus is not on our works or our will – but on Jesus. We put our trust in Him. We allow Him to be manifested in us. That is how we work out our salvation.
While many people focus on their works, Ephesians 2:10 focuses on His works. We are His workmanship. As the New Creation, we are the sum of His works. He created us for good works that we should walk in them. Its all prepared by God and we go with the flow.
(Eph 2:10)
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Remember that you are His workmanship. You are His masterpiece. You are the result of His complete work on the cross. His full potential is in you.
