7.50 What happened when we were born-again?
(Rom 6:6-8)
…knowing this, that our OLD MAN was CRUCIFIED with Him, that the BODY OF SIN might be done away with, that we should NO LONGER be SLAVES OF SIN. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him…
The new Life of Christ has to be manifested from our spirit-man to our soul (emotion, intellect and will) and body. Walking in sanctification is a progression over time. Our minds have to be renewed because it had been conditioned for years under the old man prior to our new birth (Rom 12:2; Eph 4:22-24).
Our emotions have to be healed as we experience love, joy and peace from God (Rom 5:1-5). Our wills have to be transformed as He puts His will in our hearts (Heb 8:10). Our bodies have to be yielded as instruments of righteousness (Rom 6:13).
Though our sinful nature has been done away with, our physical bodies are still subject to temptations through the five-senses of the flesh (Rom 6:12). For example, Jesus did not have any sin but He was tempted as we are (Heb 4:15). Likewise, though Christians are righteous and holy in Christ, we will still face temptations and fall into sinful actions occasionally. We need to know how to walk in sanctification according to our new nature in Christ.
What are the characteristics of holiness? These are the fruit to holiness (Rom 6:22) or the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). The Holy Spirit who lives in us is also called the “Spirit of holiness” (Rom 1:4).
The fruit of the Spirit is the characteristic of our new nature in Christ. The following are the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
(Gal 5:22-23)
But the FRUIT of the SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
These same characteristics are often mentioned of God throughout the Bible. These are the characteristics of your new nature in Christ. This is the real you.
