7.42 The benefits of praying in the Spirit – building ourselves up on our most holy faith

Praying in tongues helps to build us up on our most holy faith.

(Jude 20)
But you, beloved, BUILDING YOURSELVES UP on your most holy FAITH, PRAYING in the HOLY SPIRIT…

First of all, we must know that praying in tongues is prayer made from our spirit, the Holy of Holies where our faith resides. This is why the verse says that praying in tongues builds us up on our “most holy faith”.

When we pray in tongues, we do so by faith because we do not know what we will say next. We allow the Holy Spirit to be in total control, as we trust Him, speaking out by faith. This helps us to exercise and activate our faith in Him. In doing so, we build ourselves up on our most holy faith.

If we constantly exercise simple faith through praying in tongues, we will soon find bigger faith in discerning and following the leading of the Spirit, in prayer, and in operating the spiritual gifts. For example, after Peter had received the new prayer language on Pentecost, He started to discern the leading of the Spirit, he prayed with great faith for the lame man, and he started to flow in the gifts of the Spirit.

Faith lives inside of us through the person of the Holy Spirit. When we pray in tongues, we have a consciousness of Him and we draw from the faith of Jesus within us. This also helps to build us up on our most holy faith.

Today, you have the means to build yourself up on your most holy faith. Apart from hearing the Word of God to produce faith (Rom 10:17), you can also pray in tongues to build up that faith. Since the New Covenant in Christ is about walking by faith, God has given the New Covenant prayer language of tongues to do so.
