7.34 Remaining continually filled with the Holy Spirit

We are currently on the series - “Christ in us” – where we share about the ministry of the Spirit of Christ within the New Covenant believer.

After the initial filling of the Spirit during our baptism experience, we need to remain continually filled. We cannot survive on yesterday’s meal. We also need the constant power of the Spirit to face the challenges of our daily lives.

Praying and worshipping in tongues helps us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18-19). Our spirit is edified when we pray (1 Cor 14:4). Being filled with the Holy Spirit is contrasted with being drunk with wine in the natural. It is an intoxicating spiritual experience to drink the new wine of the Holy Spirit.

(Ephesians 5:18-19)
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs…

The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives brings about tangible benefits. Throughout the Bible, men and women of God achieved great feats because of His presence with them.

It was His presence that transformed David from a shepherd boy into the King of Israel (1 Sam 16:18). David defeated Goliath because of the anointing of the Holy Spirit (1 Sam 16:13). When he fell into sin, his prayer to God in Ps 51:11 was, “Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” He knew how precious it was to have the Holy Spirit continually with Him. When the anointing was upon him in battle, his arms could even bend a bow of bronze (Ps 18:34). David’s victory in battle depended on the Holy Spirit.

It was His presence that gave Joshua success in the conquest of the promised-land. After the death of Moses, the Lord said to Joshua, “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you” (Josh 1:5).

It was His presence that got Joseph promoted by Pharaoh from a prisoner to the Prime Minister of Egypt. Pharaoh said, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” (Gen 41:38).

It was His presence and anointing that gave Jesus success in His ministry on earth (Acts 10:38; Luke 4:18). Today, it is the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit that brings success to all that we do. We need to be continually filled with the Spirit and to be conscious of His presence.
