7.45 The benefits of praying in the Spirit – praying in God’s perfect will

With our limited understanding, we do not know God’s perfect will in every situation. So with our finite minds, how do we pray in the will of God? How do we move beyond our human limitations? As a young Christian, I found it hard to pray beyond five minutes, and often wondered if I prayed the right thing..

In the New Covenant, there is a better way. You see, in the New Covenant, we are the temple of God. We are the living and walking house of prayer – where prayer takes place within us through the Holy Spirit.

God has given the Holy Spirit to help us pray according to the perfect will of God with groanings, which cannot be uttered (Rom 8:26-27). It actually means groanings which cannot be expressed in words of the known language.

(Rom 8:26-27)
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes INTERCESSIONS FOR THE SAINTS ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD.

Our tongues may be as simple as stammering, it could be praying fluently in another language or it could be through groanings. Therefore, when we pray in tongues, we move beyond our finite minds and human limitation to pray in the perfect will of God.

So often, we find ourselves in situations when we do not know what to do. We do not even know how to pray. We just feel like pouring our hearts out to God but we do not know how to express how we feel. This is when we begin to experience the power of praying in the Spirit. We are able to pray in God’s perfect will. At the same time, there is a release from within us as we pour out to God.

As we pray in God’s perfect will, we find that the Holy Spirit begins to work in our situation to lead us out of it. We begin to experience salvation and deliverance from our situations. Start to pray in the perfect will of God today.
