9.30 Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever
Hebrews tells us that every priest stands ministering daily and repeatedly the same animal sacrifices that could not take away sins. But Jesus, after He had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER sat down at the right hand of God.
(Hebrews 10:11-14)
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
It’s a powerful expression – “one sacrifice for sins forever”. Today, there is no longer any need for sin sacrifices. When we falter, we do not look for another lamb. We do not do things to atone for our sins thinking that it is our sin sacrifice. We look to the Lamb – Jesus, who was our final sacrifice. He is able to lift us up by the power of the cross.
What did Jesus do after He had offered the final sacrifice? He sat down. This is in contrast with the Old Testament priests who could not sit down before the work was never completed. But Jesus completed the work of redemption – so He sat down.
Hebrews also tell us that by one offering, He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Another version tells us that, “With one sacrifice he made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
So today, our holiness has nothing to do with us – it has to do with Jesus. We are Holy because we are in Him and He is in us. Because He lives in us, we bear fruit to holiness. The character of God is revealed from within as the fruit of the Spirit.
Thank God for Jesus. He is our one sacrifice for sins forever. He has made us righteous and holy by His blood. We can be secure in Him. We can live our lives on the basis of who we are in Him, and we can allow Him to manifest His life through us.
