9.22 Seeing Jesus revealed in the Four Gospels

When we read the Four Gospels in the natural, we read about the birth, life and death of Jesus. But even in the Gospels, we can get a deeper revelation of Jesus through the help of the Holy Spirit.

The four Gospels systematically reveal the four facets of Jesus. These four facets of Christ are typified by the faces of the four living creature around the throne in Rev 4:7 & Ezek 1:10. The four faces are that of the lion, calf (ox), man and eagle.

(Rev 4:6-7)
Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a LION, the second living creature like a CALF, the third living creature had a face like a MAN, and the fourth living creature was like a flying EAGLE.

The Gospel of Matthew reveals Jesus as the “King of the Jews”, typified by the face of the Lion. The Gospel of Mark reveals Jesus as the “Suffering Servant”, typified by the face of the Ox. The Gospel of Luke reveals Jesus as the “Perfect Man”, typified by the face of the Man, and the Gospel of John reveals Jesus as the “Divine Son of God”, typified by the face of the Eagle.

The Gospel of Matthew begins by showing that Jesus the King of the Jews was from the genealogy of Abraham and King David (Matt 1:1). God had promised that the Messiah would come from Abraham (Gen 12:3) and David (2 Sam 7:12-13).

The Gospel of Mark does not give a genealogy of Jesus because He is revealed as the Suffering Servant, and there is no need to give the genealogy of a servant.

The Gospel of Luke traces the natural lineage of Jesus the Perfect Man back to Adam (Luke 3:23-38). Adam was the natural father of this man Jesus.

The Gospel of John says that Jesus was there from the beginning as the Son of God (John 1:1-3). He has no genealogy as the Son of God because all things were made through Him.

Through the four faces in Ezek 1:10 and Rev 4:7, the Bible confirms that there are only four Spirit-inspired Gospels. The extra Gnostics gospels are not from God. Today, we also understand why there are four Gospels. Jesus is like a beautiful diamond and we can see His beauty from four different angles.
