9.14 Experience the ministry of life under the New Covenant

How many of us would want to experience an infusion of God’s life in our spirit, soul and body? Today, under the New Covenant, we can truly experience the zoe life of God. The Bible calls us “ministers of the New Covenant”. We are to bring the good news of this life to those who do not know Jesus.

(2 Cor 3:5-7)
…our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as MINISTERS OF THE NEW COVENANT, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the LETTER KILLS, but the SPIRIT GIVES LIFE. But if the MINISTRY OF DEATH, written and engraved on stones…

The above passage contrasts the Spirit with the Law. First, it says that we are ministers of the Spirit, not of the Law. Then it tells us that the Spirit gives life, but the Law kills. It calls the Law of the Old Covenant the “ministry of death” in contrast with the “ministry of the New Covenant”.

The Law places a demand that man could not keep. It then passes a sentence upon him, resulting in condemnation and death. But Jesus sent us His Spirit because of our justification. He came to minister life to the New Covenant believer. The Spirit, called the “Spirit of life” who dwells in us is even able to give life to our mortal bodies.

(Romans 8:10-11)
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the SPIRIT IS LIFE because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also GIVE LIFE to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Moses went up to Mt Sinai under the Old Covenant, and received the law that was given to the people. The law was the central focus in the Old Covenant. Their lives revolves around it.

But Jesus went up to heaven, and received from the Father the Holy Spirit who was given to the Church on the Day of Pentecost. Today, the Holy Spirit is central to the New Covenant. Our lives revolve around the Holy Spirit.

When the Law was given, it resulted in the death of 3,000 people. It was the ministry of death at work for the sinner. But when the Spirit was poured down in Pentecost, 3,000 people received eternal life. What a powerful contrast! And the Holy Spirit ministered life throughout the book of Acts. Today, you can draw from this river of life. You can also minister life as ministers of the New Covenant.
