9.4 We died with Christ & resurrected with Him in newness of life

For those celebrating Chinese New Year, we would like to wish you a blessed new year in Christ Jesus. But we will continue with our series for those who are not on holiday.

Yesterday, we shared that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away and all things have become new. We have taken on a new identity. How did this happen. How did old things pass away and how did all things become new. How were we born again?

Let us consider this verse which explains what happened.

(Romans 6:4-6)
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

When Christ died, we were united in the likeness of His death. We died with Him when He died. Our old man and its sinful nature were crucified with Him. All our sins have been forgiven. This explains why old things have passed away. When a person dies, he is freed from every debt of the past. He is freed from every liability. He is freed from the body of sin, and is no longer a slave of sin. Satan no longer has a hold over him.

And when Christ resurrected, we were also resurrected into newness of life. The new life that we have is now wrapped up in Christ. We became a new person or a new creation. We have a new nature – that of Christ. We have a new identity – that of Christ. We have a new purpose and a new hope in Christ. We live according to the resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead.

Today, you can live in your new identity of the new man in Christ. When you see yourself in Christ, you will also experience the reality of Christ in you. This is our privilege in the New Covenant after Christ’s death and resurrection.
