9.25 Jesus worthy of more glory than Moses
But Moses had prophesied about the coming of Christ, and that the people were to listen to Christ when He comes to fulfill the Old Covenant and to establish the New Covenant.
(Deut 18:15)
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear…”
Unfortunately when Jesus came, the Pharisees did not listen to Jesus. They did not embrace the grace that came to them. So Jesus said that Moses would be the one who accuses them.
(John 5:45-46)
Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.
The book of Hebrews contrasts Jesus with Moses. To the Hebrews who revered Moses, and who were about to turn their backs on Christ - the writer tells them that Jesus was worthy of more glory than Moses. There is no comparison with the Son of God.
(Hebrews 3:1-6)
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, 2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted WORTHY OF MORE GLORY THAN MOSES, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. 5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, 6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
Both Jesus and Moses were faithful but the one who built the house has more honor than the house. Jesus who created Moses is greater than Moses. God is greater than His creation. While Moses was faithful in the house as a servant, Christ was a Son over His own house. Therefore, we are to listen to Jesus who had come. We are privileged to have the Son of God.
