6.20 All the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen

(2 Corinthians 1:19-20, NKJV)
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For ALL the PROMISES of God in Him are YES, and in Him AMEN, to the glory of God through us.

In the Old Covenant, there were many promises of blessings given to Israel. Some of these are mentioned in Deuteronomy 28:1-13. The only problem was that these blessings have to be earned through keeping the works of the law. Israel wanted these blessings but there was no certainty in attaining them. Israel could not keep the law and broke God’s covenant (Heb 8:9). Even when Israel was blessed, it was because of the blood of the animal sacrifice that was shed on the Day of Atonement for the whole nation.

Today, some of us are still living life with an uncertainty as to whether God wants to bless us. We hear preaching that sometimes tell us that God wants to bless us, and at other times tell us that God does not want to bless us. Sometimes He wants to heal us but sometimes He doesn’t. Sometimes He sees us as righteous but sometimes He doesn’t. Sometimes He loves us but sometimes He is out to punish us. We find this uncertainty so confusing. Beloved, have you experienced that before?

Paul declares that the Christ that was preached to the people was not “Yes” and “No”. There is no sense of uncertainty in Paul, Silvanus or Timothy’s preaching. He declares boldly that ALL the PROMISES of God in Christ are YES and AMEN. What a powerful verse!

Today we can be certain of all our promises in Christ. When Eph 1:3 says that we have been blessed with every blessing given by the Holy Spirit in Christ, we can be certain of it. We can be certain of every promise in the Bible – including promises under the law because Jesus has fulfilled the law for us. Gal 3:13 says that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. He did not redeem us from the blessings of the law. He took the curses and gave the blessings.

When we live life with an expectation that all the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen towards us, we will experience His miraculous blessings in our everyday life; we will experience His redemption in every situation.

All our promises are found in a Person – in Christ. It is not found in what we do or in any secret formulas. What a privilege we have to be in Christ.
