7.54 To “WALK”- walking in our new identity in Christ (bearing fruit of the Spirit)

Our new creation is already holy like God through Christ (our position), but we need to allow the fruit of holiness to grow and be manifested in our Christian walk. How do we walk in the new man?

Put on the new man

Firstly, Eph 4:22-24 says that we put on the new man by being renewed in the spirit of our mind. The mind has to be renewed by the Word of God every day. We have to be conscious of our righteousness and holiness in Christ at all times.

(Eph 4:22-24)
…that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be RENEWED in the spirit of your MIND, and that you PUT ON the NEW MAN which was created according to God, in true RIGHTEOUSNESS and HOLINESS.

When a person sees his identity in the old sinful nature, he inadvertently puts on the old man. When he puts on the old man, he will walk like the old man which has already been crucified. He simply walks in the memory of the old man.

Beloved, is your identity securely rooted in Christ? Do you see yourself in Adam, as a sinner, or do you see yourself in Christ, as a saint? We can put on our new man by confessing who we are in Christ. Try making the following confessions aloud:

1) I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21)
2) I am the temple of the Holy Spirit, for Christ has made me Holy in Him (1 Cor 3:16-17; Ephesians 1:4)
3) I am a new creation in Christ, created in righteousness and holiness (2 Cor 5:17; Eph 4:24)

Do you feel edified by the truth of God’s Word? Try confessing them on a daily basis for the coming weeks and I assure you that you will experience the reality of walking in the new man.

Imagine if you could have a paradigm shift. From this moment, you engage in a different gear or paradigm in your mind. You start seeing yourself the way God sees you. You start seeing yourself in your new identity “IN CHRIST” (In series 6, we had covered on your new identity in Christ. You can refer to those lessons).

When we are able to “sit” in our position in Christ, we will be able to walk in it. We will bear fruit of the spirit. We cannot walk until we learn how to sit as Christians. This is the powerful theme of the book of Ephesians that could transform our lives.
