4.16 What has changed since we entered into covenant with God?

Because we are in covenant with God, everything has changed for the better. Unfortunately, Christians who do not know they are in covenant with God through Jesus are not experiencing the provisions of their covenant. That is why it is so important to understand covenant and to know who we are in Covenant with.

Once, God promised Abraham that God would give him descendants and the promised land of Canaan. He was a rich man but he did not have hope for an heir. He did not have the power to produce and heir. He needed an heir to inherit his promised land of Canaan (Gen 15: 2-8). He asked God, “How shall I know that I will inherit it?”

How did God answer him? God cut a covenant for him (Genesis 15:9-21). Abraham knew that a covenant cannot be broken. When God cut the covenant, the promises are as good as fulfilled.

Like Abraham, we were once without hope. We were powerless in our attempt to save ourselves. We had no eternal inheritance. Then Jesus came to cut a covenant for us. Through this covenant, He gave us hope. He gave us an inheritance. He gave us His power. On the cross, every promise had been settled (Eph 1:3; 2 Cor 1:20).

The challenge is for us to have a deeper revelation of our hope in Him, our inheritance in Him, and His power which works in us. When we have this revelation, it will make a difference in our Christian walk. This is why Paul prayed this powerful prayer for the Ephesian Church.

(Ephesians 1:16-21, NKJV)
…making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of WISDOM and REVELATION in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the HOPE OF HIS CALLING, what are the riches of the glory of HIS INHERITANCE in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of HIS POWER toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…

Today, you too can pray this prayer over and over again until it becomes a personal revelation to you. In the New Covenant, you can live in the hope of His calling, enjoy His inheritance, and experience His power.
