4.10 Receiving God’s belt in the New Covenant

Another step of the Hebrew ceremony is the exchange of belts. The belt holds the person’s weapons and armor. You are symbolically saying, “I will protect you and fight for you” (1 Sam 18:4).

The Bible talks about the armor of God. The first item of the armor mentioned is the belt of truth. God has given us truth. John 1:17 says that truth came through our Lord Jesus Christ. The belt holds the other pieces of weapon and armor.

(Eph 6:14-18, NKJV)
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…

When we entered into covenant with God, we have received the full armor of God. When we put on the full armor of God, we are putting on Christ. We walk in truth, in righteousness, in faith, etc.

When we entered into covenant with God, we also entered into His victory. We are not trying to attain the victory. Jesus has already defeated Satan on the cross. Col 2:14-15 says that He has triumphed over principalities and powers. He has already given us His victory. That is why we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:37).

The armor of God helps us stand in our victory (Eph 6:13).
