8.92 Jesus took our curses and died on our behalf
But Jesus not only took our condemnation, He also suffered all the curses of breaking the law on our behalf. Words cannot describe how Jesus suffered in His spirit, soul and body to carry the curses of the whole world. The Bible says that Jesus carried our curses to the extent that He actually became a curse for us. As a result, we have been fully redeemed from the curse of the law.
(Gal 3:13)
Christ has REDEEMED US from the CURSE OF THE LAW, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)…
Every dreadful curse that we read about in Deuteronomy 28 has been carried on Jesus. The curse of the law mentioned in Deut 28 includes poverty, barrenness, confusion, destruction, sickness, disease, oppression, defeat, weakness, demotion, hunger and many more. For example, in the case of healing, the Bible says that by His stripes we were healed (1 Peter 2:24). It is in the past tense – pointing back to the event on the cross.
Whatever symtoms of the curse that we may experience, we can come to Jesus to declare by faith that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. We are under Christ – not under the law. We have been freed from the curse of the law through faith in Christ.
Finally, after bearing the curse of the law, Jesus died on our behalf on the cross. He died our death. He bore the full wages of sin – even our death that we may be released from eternal death. As a result, we can now experience eternal life.
(John 3:14-15)
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not PERISH but have ETERNAL LIFE.
In summary, the law produced condemnation, curses and death. The Ten Commandments was the ministry of death written on stones. But the sinner, with the realization of His need for a Savior can turn to Jesus to embrace Him. The sinner can be washed by the blood and receive the gift of righteousness; no longer under condemnation. Jesus has also freed us from curse of the law and from death.
What a wonderful Savior we have in Jesus. It is important to walk with Jesus in the truth of the New Covenant instead of continuing under the ministry of death.
