8.90 The law brings forth curses to those who walk under it

Gal 3:10 says that all who strive to walk under the system of the works of the law will fall under the curse of the law. It is presumed that the one who walks under law will break the law, and be subject to its judgment – the curses of the law (Deut 28).

(Gal 3:10)
For as many as are of the WORKS OF THE LAW are under the CURSE; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”

Today, there are Christians who experience the symptoms of the curse because they unknowingly walk under law instead of grace. The curse of the law mentioned in Deut 28 includes poverty, barrenness, confusion, destruction, sickness, disease, oppression, defeat, weakness, demotion, hunger and many more. Some rationalize that sickness is a blessing from God but the Bible says that it is a curse of the law.

But the most common symptom of the curse is spiritual dryness. I have met countless number of Christians who struggle with their spiritual walk with God. For many years, I was also a backslided Christian. It was the grace of God that ultimately delivered me from the land of spiritual dryness to the land of milk and honey.

Finally, breaking the law results in death. 2 Cor 3:7 calls the Ten Commandments, written and engraved on stones - “the ministry of death”. Ezek 18:20 declares that the soul that sins shall die. The wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23). The law administers death.

Paul said that when the commandment came, sin was revived and it produced death. Apart from the law, sin was dead.

(Rom 7:8-10)
For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the COMMANDMENT CAME, sin revived and I DIED. And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to BRING DEATH.

From Egypt to Sinai, Israel complained and murmured against God, but not a single person died. Immediately after the law was given, about 3,000 people died for breaking the first commandment by worshipping the golden calf (Ex 32:28). The law brought forth curses and death because of sin.

Today, if we are experiencing symptoms of the curse or spiritual dryness, the likely reason is because we are approaching God under the system of law. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse. We need to come back to Jesus and live on the basis of His grace alone, in the New Covenant.
