8.89 Satan uses the law to condemn us

Satan came to steal, kill and destroy. One of his methods is through condemnation. The Bible calls him the accuser (Rev 12:10). How does he accuse us? What is his weapon? Satan uses the law to accuse us. He is a skillful lawyer and the chief prosecutor.

The law was given to show forth the sinner. But Satan took advantage of it by using it as His weapon. He tells us where we fall short of the law, and makes us feel condemned. When we are bound under condemnation, he destroys us over time.

Jesus had to disarm Satan to render him powerless. This explains why Jesus on the cross, Jesus not only took away our sins. He also removed the handwriting of requirements that was against us – the law. He removed it by fulfilling it, and by taking the full brunt of the judgment meted out by the law.

Then after Jesus had disarmed Satan’s principalities and powers of their weapon, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them. The heavens saw the full extent of the finished work of Jesus. Even the veil to the Holy of Holies was torn.

(Col 2:14-15)
…having wiped out the HANDWRITING OF REQUIREMENT that was AGAINST US, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having DISARMED principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

If a Christian is not established on the grace of Jesus, or is still living under the system of law, the person has just re-armed Satan. He will believe every accusation from Satan and come under condemnation again. Satan has a hold on that person’s life.

Today, when Satan uses the law to incriminate us, we can tell Him that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. We are now the righteousness of God in Christ. The law has been nailed to the cross once and for all.

In fact, Jesus is also a skillful lawyer – more skillful than Satan. He is our advocate who intercedes for us. He will not allow Satan to bring a charge against God’s elect – who has been redeemed by His precious blood. He will justify us.

(Romans 8:33-34)
Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Today, you are freed from all condemnation because of Jesus. Thank God for Jesus.
