8.88 The law is the ministry of condemnation

From today, we move on to cover the outcome of living under law in the Old Covenant versus living under grace in the New Covenant. We will contrast the law’s ministry of condemnation, with the Holy Spirit’s ministry of justification.

What happens when the sinner who walks under the system of law fail to keep it perfectly? Whenever the law is broken, it means that the person has committed sin. The person is unrighteous before God. This in turn results in condemnation by the law, which results in the curses of the law, and ultimately death.

The law is called the ministry of condemnation and the ministry of death. Paul was specifically referring to the Ten Commandments written and engraved on stones.

(2 Cor 3:7-9)
But if the MINISTRY OF DEATH, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? For if the MINISTRY OF CONDEMNATION had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.

2 Cor 3:9 calls the law the “ministry of condemnation”. The law shows the Old Covenant believer their sins, tells them that they are unrighteous and condemns them as sinners. It executes justice perfectly against the sinner because it is the tutor that brings him to Christ. Jesus said that He does not accuse us. It is Moses [the law] that accuses those who trust in it.

(John 5:45)
Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.

In John 8:1-11, when the woman was caught in the act of adultery was brought before Jesus, her accusers said to Jesus, “Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned…” They used the law to condemn the woman, not knowing that they were condemned by the same law. Jesus told them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” They left one by one. The law condemned everyone alike.

Today, there are many Christians who live under condemnation, because they unknowingly walk under the system of law. Condemnation is harmful. The person who lives under condemnation believes he deserves only bad things. He is programmed to self-destruct. It destroys his relationships. It destroys his health. It destroys his person’s life.
