8.70 Works of faith – walking as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus

On the cross, there was a divine exchange between Jesus and us. All our sins were imputed to Him to the extent that He became sin. And all His righteousness was imputed to us to the extent that we became the righteousness of God in Christ.

(2 Cor 5:21, NKJV)
For He [God] made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him [Jesus].

In the New Covenant, righteousness is a gift from Jesus (Rom 5:17). It is a position of being in Christ, apart from works (Rom 3:28). This is not how God sees us - He sees us in Christ – and we are the righteousness of God in Christ.

Under the Old Covenant, righteousness is attained by works. But in the New Covenant, we have the power to walk in righteousness because Jesus has already made us righteous.

(Eph 4:23-24)
…and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

We need to be renewed in the spirit of our mind – to understand that your new man is created according to God in righteousness and holiness. When you have that realization, you are “putting on the new man”. When you believe by faith, you are putting on the consciousness of your new identity.

When that happens, you will start to walk in the righteousness of Christ. The outworking of His righteousness will transform your speech, actions and behavior. It is no longer your effort but the power of the Holy Spirit. You will start to walk in faith as the righteousness of God. When you walk into the office, it brightens up because the righteousness of God has just stepped in.

This is true works of faith – walking as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Start by declaring your faith, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.”
