8.64 Works of faith for your daily life – 3 practical areas

By now, we should be clear about the difference between works of faith vs. works of the law. Works of the law is performed to attain to something which is unattainable. Works of faith is the outworking of the finished work of Christ from within us. So whatever we do have to be done out of faith – drawing upon Jesus. In the New Covenant, the Bible says that whatever is not of faith is sin (Rom 14:23). Jesus is everything.

Some may ask, “How do I walk in works of faith?” What must I do? Most people want to look for formulas. When we get to “what must we do” we put ourselves under law again. But faith is about believing right – believing in what Christ has done. When we believe right, we will experience the leading of the Holy Spirit, and we always end up with the right doing.

Let me share three broad areas of faith that will result in works of faith. This is something very practical. Under the New Covenant, we believe:

1) Who we are in Christ
2) What we have in Christ
3) What we can accomplish through Christ

Paul prayed a powerful prayer for the Ephesian church.

(Eph 1:18-20)
…the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that YOU MAY KNOW what is the HOPE OF HIS CALLING, what are the riches of the glory of HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS, and what is the exceeding greatness of HIS POWER TOWARD US WHO BELIEVE, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…

Many Christians strive to be called. They strive to receive their inheritance. They strive to have power. But Paul says that what they need is simply enlightenment – to know what THEY ALREADY HAVE. If we strive to have it, it means we don’t believe we have it. But if we believe we have it, we can start to walk in faith.

1) THE HOPE OF HIS CALLING
What is God’s calling for us? The Epistles tell us WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST. It tells us our new identity according to the calling of God.

2) HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS
Our inheritance is all that belong to us as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. The Epistles tell us WHAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST. It tells us all our promises.

3) THE POWER TOWARD US WHO BELIEVE
Today, the live we live is no longer by self-effort. It is Christ living in us and through us. He lives in us by His Holy Spirit who was poured put on Pentecost. The Holy Spirit wants to accomplish God’s destiny in our lives. We cannot achieve it on our own strength. We believe WHAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH THROUGH CHRIST.
