8.65 Works of faith – Walk as a new creation in Christ

During our series 6 a few months back, we shared many truths about 1) who we are in Christ, 2) what we have in Christ, and 3) what we can accomplish through Christ. Those were powerful truths. Now, as we cover on “works of faith”, we will draw upon those truths again – to apply them to our daily walk.

The Bible tells us that today; we are a new creation in Christ.

(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Therefore, if anyone is IN CHRIST, HE IS a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

When we received Christ, the old man died. We are a brand new person in Him. We have taken on His identity. He has taken our sin, our condemnation and our shame. We experience the new life of Christ that flows from within us.

Many people still live life according to their old identity. They are still bound by their old self-image. They see themselves as poor sinners. They are still governed by their old way of thinking, and by their old habits. When they received Christ, they try very hard to be the good person whom God “expects” them to be. They work hard to effect change in their external behavior, so that God will be pleased with them.

But there is a problem there. That is the approach of law – depending on self-effort to change the external behavior. And the law is not of faith. So while it is good that the person has such good intentions, and is making good effort, he will not get the results through works of the law. He is not walking in faith. He doubts what Christ has accomplished. He is trying in his own effort be what God has already made him to be – the new creation in Christ.

Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good. He came to make dead people live. He is not into behavior modification. He is in the business of life transformation. When we received Christ, we became a new creation. Old things have passed away, all things have become new. There are no “maybes”, “ifs” and “buts”. It is a statement of fact.

What is faith? It is to believe who we are in Christ; to believe that we are a new creation in Him. Do you really believe that? Spend some time to meditate upon the verse. Sometimes, we need to meditate on a truth till it drops into our heart as a revelation. Thereafter, we continuously remind ourselves by reading the Word. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.

When we have the revelation that we are a new creation in Christ, we will start walking by faith in that reality. We will experience the power of Christ in us. Faith activates His power. We will experience life transformation from within. Declare this aloud, “I am a new creation in Christ.”

A new creation in Christ,
