8.44 Would Jesus have gone to the cross just for you?
Yes, there are many verses that talks about God’s love for the world. But there are as many verses that talk about God’s love for you and I as an individual. Paul declares in Gal 2:20, “The Son of God, who loved ME and gave Himself for ME.” This verse brings the love of Christ to the level of an INDIVIDUAL. Just like John which we shared yesterday, Paul also personalizes God’s love to himself.
In the Parable of the Lost Sheep (Matt 18:12-14), Jesus said that He would leave 99 sheep to seek out the one that strayed. He would rejoice more over that one sheep than the 99 that did not stray. Jesus focuses on that one sheep – you.
(Matt 18:12-13)
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and ONE of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the ONE that is straying? And if he should FIND IT, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more OVER THAT SHEEP than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.
In the Parable of the Pearl of Great Price (Matt 13:45-46), Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all he had and bought it.
(Matt 13:45-46)
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Some people think that the merchant represents the believer who finds Jesus, the priceless pearl. In reality, Jesus was saying that He had to pay the price with all He had, even His own life, to purchase your redemption because you are the one and priceless pearl to Him.
The angels in heaven rejoice over just one sinner who comes to repentance (Luke 15:10). They had a party in heaven when you got saved. Have no doubt of His love for you. To God, you are His precious child. You are the priceless pearl that He died for. Just pause and let that truth sink in. Just relax and absorb His love into your whole being. Like Paul, you can declare – the Son of God loved me and gave Himself just for me.
