8.37 On the cross, God demonstrated His love for us
So God sent His Son Jesus to pay for our sins and to give us forgiveness by His grace (John 3:16). When God gave grace, He demonstrated His love for us. The Bible declares that God demonstrated His love toward us by sending His Son to pay the penalty for us.
(Rom 5:8)
But God demonstrates His own LOVE toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The Father loved His Son dearly. But because of God’s love for you, He sent His Son to suffer and die for the whole world. John 3:16 says, “For so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”
(John 3:16)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Jesus had to give up everything in heaven to come down to earth. He had He had to suffer rejection by His own people. He had to be deserted by His own disciples. He had to be condemned by the ones He came to save. He had to bear the beatings of the savage Roman soldiers. He had to suffer humiliation by the ones He created. He had to be consumed by the wrath of God’s judgment on the cross.
Jesus knew what was ahead of Him when He prayed in Gethsemane. He was under so much agony that He sweated blood. But because of His love for you, He laid down His life willingly. The Bible says that there is no greater demonstration of love than to lay down your life for another (John 15:13). Jesus became the personification of God’s love.
The New Covenant is about the love of God. The law did not reveal the love of God, but Grace did. The law did not to reveal God as our Father, but Jesus did (John 17:5-6).
While the foundation of God’s throne is built on justice, GOD IS LOVE. Justice is the way of God but Love is the person of God. Though God has to punish the sinner, His heart was for the sinner. That is why He sent Jesus to reveal His love by saving the sinner.
