8.32 The law revealed God’s justice
(Isaiah 33:22)
For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver…
The law defines the righteousness of God (Deut 6:25), and God uses the law to execute His justice with impartiality (Ps 9:7-8).
A country which has laws to protect the people, and a judiciary system that carries out justice will bring progress to the nation. Likewise as the King, righteousness and justice are the foundation of God’s throne. We can look to God with confidence, respect, and reverence and worship because we know that He executes justice. He judges with impartiality using the law. God loves righteousness and justice. He is called the God of justice.
(Ps 89:14)
Righteousness and justice are the FOUNDATION of Your THRONE…
(Ps 33:5)
He loves righteousness and justice…
(Is 30:18)
For the Lord is a God of Justice…
God gave the law as the plumb line for sin. It also stated clearly the punishment for sin and the rewards for righteousness. To those who keep the law perfectly (righteous), they will receive abundant blessings of the law (Deut 28: 1-2). To those who break the law (unrighteous), they will receive the terrible curses of the law (Deut 28:15). Israel received justice according to the unbending law. They were to keep the law and live by them (Lev 18:4-5).
God’s justice works only in favor of the righteous. All the blessings of the law are reserved for the righteous alone, while the sinners come under the curses. But there was one big problem. As sinners, the justice of God worked against Israel. Likewise, as sinners, all of mankind is on the wrong side of God’s justice. Obviously, mankind needs a solution to be redeemed from its sinful state – to move from curses to blessings.
For Israel, they had a temporary solution. The Covenant of Law allowed for them to make animal sacrifices. That animal would take their place in death to suffer the penalty under the law. Their sins would be covered by the blood of that animal until the true Lamb of God came. For 1,500 years, every lamb that was sacrificed each day, and each year – pointed to Jesus who would come. The law pointed to Jesus.
