8.25 The fullness of grace that flows from the cross

Many Christians think of forgiveness as the only redemptive work of Jesus on the cross. Jesus not only paid for our forgiveness, but also for every blessing in our lives (Eph 1:3; 2 Cor 1:20). This demonstrates the richness of His grace.

Sin produced spiritual separation from God, which resulted in death. Jesus was separated from God when He cried, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” God the Father turned His face from Jesus as He carried our sins, so that we may be reconciled to God as our Father. Through His death on the cross, we can experience life.

Sin caused the loss of peace and joy in Adam and Eve. They feared and hid from God. The Bible says, “The chastisement of our peace was upon Him,” that we may have peace. He became a man of sorrows so that we can have joy (Isaiah 53).

Adam had to toil and sweat. He suffered stress. Jesus sweated blood and suffered stress as He prayed in Gethsemane so that we may enter His rest.

The ground was cursed with thorns and thistles. Man was plagued with poverty. Jesus wore the crown of thorns to redeem us from the curse of thorns. He became poor and even His clothes were gambled away that we may become rich in Him (2 Cor 8:9).

Sin caused a darkening of the mind. Jesus went through darkness on the cross so that we may have the mind of Christ.

Eve was cursed with labor pains. Jesus’ side was pierced to give birth to the Church. Today, we are redeemed from the curse of labor pains.

Sickness and physical infirmity came as a curse. Jesus bore the beating of the Roman soldiers that “by His stripes we are healed”.

Sin drove Adam and Eve from their home in Eden. Jesus had to leave His home in heaven to come to this earth as a baby born in a humble manger, so that He can prepare a mansion for us in heaven.

Sin caused a breakdown of relationships. Cain was jealous and killed Abel. Jesus suffered a breakdown of relationships so that we may have restoration of relationships. He was rejected, betrayed and denied by His very own. They were jealous of Him and they crucified Him.

Sin caused Adam to lose his dominion and spiritual authority on this earth to Satan. Jesus gave up all His dominion and authority as the Son of God, to come to this earth as an ordinary man, to take back spiritual authority from Satan. He has restored our spiritual authority on this earth and we are seated in the heavenly places in Him.

Sin brought about death. It shortened the length of years. But Jesus died at a young age on the cross – so that with long life He will satisfy you (Psalm 91).

It will take a lifetime to discover all that Chris has done for us and to experience the fullness of His grace. We can truly say that His grace is sufficient for us in every situation.
