8.41 The secret to being filled with the fullness of God

What is the quest of the Christian believer? Many say that it is to be filled with the fullness of God in us. But how do we get filled with the fullness of God? What is the secret? This secret is found in Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian Church. This is one of the most powerful prayers in the epistles.

(Eph 3:17-19, Amplified Bible)
…May you be ROOTED DEEP IN LOVE and FOUNDED SECURELY ON LOVE, that you may have the power and be strong to APPREHEND and GRASP with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the EXPERIENCE of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through EXPERIENCE for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far SURPASSES mere KNOWLEDGE [without experience]; that you may be FILLED [through all your being] unto all the FULLNESS OF GOD [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

Paul prayed that:
1) they be rooted deep and founded securely on the love of Christ which gives them the power to
2) grasp the magnitude of the love of Christ, and
3) to know by experience the love which is beyond head knowledge.

Finally, something happens when we have grown in our comprehension and experience of the love of Christ. We will be filled with the fullness of God in all our being. Isn’t it consistent with what we shared earlier? God is love. The more we experience love, and be filled with His love - the more we will be filled with His Person.

The key to having more of God in us is by having a deeper revelation and greater experience of Jesus’ love for us. Instead of saying, “We must love God more,” we should say, “We must experience more of His love for us.” Instead of striving hard to gain spiritual knowledge, we should ask for more revelation of His love. Knowledge puffs us up but love edifies us. Instead of trying to achieve spiritual transformation, we just need to rest in His love, and grow in the revelation and experience of it. When we are consumed in His love, we will be transformed with the fullness of God.

Therefore, say this prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Give me a deeper revelation of Your limitless love that was demonstrated through Christ on the cross. Help me to grow in my experience of Your love so that I may be filled with the fullness of You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
