9.47 Praying in the name of Jesus

When we pray through Jesus our High Priest, we are depending on Jesus to bring our prayers to the Father. To Father God, Jesus represents us and we are wrapped up in Jesus. It is as if Jesus Himself is praying to the Father. When we depend on Jesus’ standing, we express ourselves by praying to Father God in the name of Jesus.

Under the Old Covenant, nobody prayed in the name of Jesus. It is the privilege that we have in the New Covenant because we have Jesus as our High Priest. The turning point came in the book of John. Jesus said to His disciples that until that time, they had asked nothing in His name. He then told them to ask the Father using the name of Jesus, and they would receive.

(John 16:23-24)
“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father IN MY NAME He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing IN MY NAME. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

There is just something about the name of Jesus. It represents Jesus. When Jesus asks of the Father, He would receive. So when we ask of the Father using the name of Jesus, we would also receive.

Now, some people could use the name of Jesus like a magic formula. But it is not a formula. It is relationship. More importantly, it is to have faith in the name and person of Jesus. It is also to understand what it means to put your trust in Him who represents us.

Paul didn’t use it like a formula. Some of His prayers do not end with the name of Jesus, but the apostle Paul put His trust fully in Jesus his High Priest. He is the one who said that there is a mediator between God and man – Jesus. He is the one who proclaimed that Jesus reconciled us to the Father. He had relationship with Jesus, and he had faith in Jesus.

Likewise today, you have the privilege to pray in the name of Jesus. You have the faith to trust that He represents you as your High Priest. You know that when you pray with faith through Jesus, your prayers will be answered. You can enjoy that special relationship with Father God through Jesus.
