9.34 Experiencing the true substance of Christ – the Brazen Altar
The first furniture is the Brazen Altar. It is the altar where the animal is sacrificed. The way into the presence of God starts at the Brazen altar. You cannot come empty handed. There must be an animal sacrifice.
The Brazen Altar is the picture of the cross. Bronze peaks of judgment. The animal points to Jesus the Lamb of God. On the cross He took our judgment. He was burned by the fire of God’s judgment on our behalf.
The only way to the presence of the Father is through the cross. There is no other way. We can’t come empty handed. We put our faith in Jesus the Lamb of God who took away our sins.
Do you remember how you came to receive your salvation? Most likely someone shared the gospel with you. Or you were at an evangelistic rally. Someone shared about Jesus and you were invited to receive Him into your heart. You prayed a prayer acknowledging that Jesus took away all your sins. This is the experience at the Brazen Altar.
This experience is explained in the book of Romans. Paul talks about justification by faith apart from the deeds of the law. There was nothing we could do to earn our salvation. It was a free gift. We simply put our faith in the Lamb of God who took our place. This is the good news of the gospel.
It was God who reconciled the world to Himself through the cross. And today, we have been given the ministry of reconciliation. We have the opportunity to share this good news with others. We are the ambassadors of God – to tell the world that their sins are forgiven, and they can come home to the heavenly Father – through the cross.
(2 Cor 5:18-19)
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
