7.58 To “STAND” – The battle is in our thoughts
(2 Cor 10:4-5)
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down STRONGHOLDS, casting down ARGUMENTS and every high thing that exalts itself against the KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, bringing every THOUGHT into captivity to the OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST…
Eve lost the battle in her conversation with the serpent. She entertained and believed the arguments that were contrary to what God had said (Gen 3:1-4). In contrast, Jesus won the battle in the three temptations by casting down Satan’s temptations that were contrary to God.
Today, you too can cast down every argument and temptation that is contrary to your new identity in Christ. When Satan tries to accuse, tempt or deceive you, you can declare what is written, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus” (2 Cor 5:21). Keep declaring it and the power of sin will diminish.
The key to battling a thought from Satan is not in trying to deny it, subdue it or wrestle with it with our strength. It is to think about the promises of God which swallows up every contrary thought. The way to fight darkness is to turn on the light instead of wrestling with darkness. The way to overcome death is to receive life instead of wrestling with death.
There is great value in being full of God’s Word – the revelation of our New Covenant in Christ. When our minds are renewed by the Word of Christ, we will walk in dominion over Satan and the power of darkness.
Finally, if we should fall, remember that it does not change our position in Christ. There is no condemnation in Christ (Rom 8:1). We cannot fall out of righteousness which is in Christ (Rom 5:20-21). Continue abiding in Christ and walking in the new man to bear fruit. Our walk in Christ can only get better as we draw from the power of holiness to swallow the power of sin. Prov 24:16 says that a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again.
