6.1 New Series – DISCOVERING YOUR REAL IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Today, we begin on a new series. This series is an exciting journey of self-discovery. It helps us to apply our faith in Christ in a practical way.

In the last series, we have established that Christianity is about being born again. We are now a new creation in Christ. The KJV says we are a new creature or a new kind of being. Like a spiritual baby, we need to discover our new identity. The Christian journey is one of discovering who we really are in Christ.

We are all well familiar with our old man that died with Christ at the cross. We have lived with this old man and put up with him for so many years. But many Christians do not realize that the old man is gone; and they are now a brand new person.

It is like a pauper who finds out that he is a prince. Because he has been a pauper for so long, he does not see himself as a prince, he does not know his inheritance, and he does not know what he can achieve. He keeps on living like a pauper. That describes the life of many Christians.

We see ourselves in Adam and we strive so hard to be act like Christ not knowing that we are already in Christ and He in us. We see ourselves in lack, and then we plead with God for blessings not knowing the inheritance we have. We try so hard to perform in our self-effort, not knowing that He wants to perform through us. We need a renewal of our mind. We need to know who we are in Christ, what we have in Christ, and what we can do in Christ.

When we understand these three things, we will start to walk by faith according to God’s Word. Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they would have a revelation of the hope of His calling (who we are), the riches of His inheritance in the saints (what we have), and the greatness of his power toward us who believe (what we can achieve through Him).

(Ephesians 1:16-20)
…do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the HOPE OF HIS CALLING, what are the riches of the glory of HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS, and what is the exceeding GREATNESS OF HIS POWER toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…

For this series, have an open mind to see yourself the way God sees you. You don’t really know who you are until you discover your real identity in Christ.
