5.19 Epistles – How effective was the blood of Jesus in redeeming us?
(Hebrews 10:11-14, NKJV)
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER, SAT DOWN at the right hand of God …For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
So complete was the work of Jesus that He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. How are we perfected? We are perfected in our standing in Christ being sanctified to holiness. Today, God sees us the way He sees Jesus because our new identity is in Christ (1 John 4:17). We are also perfected in our conscience, being delivered from the consciousness of sin (Heb 10:1-2).
The Bible says that Jesus has purchased eternal redemption for us (Heb 9:11-12). Why is it called eternal redemption? This is because the sin of the world – past, present and future were dealt with by that one sacrifice forever. All our sins have been imputed to Christ and His everlasting righteousness has been imputed to us (Dan 9:24, Rom 4:6-8).
(Hebrews 9:11-12, NKJV)
Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His OWN BLOOD He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained ETERNAL REDEMPTION.
What does it mean? From the fall of mankind, sin was the problem that separated man from God and brought about death. Through the redemption of Christ from sin, man is now reconciled to God to enjoy His abundant life. The only problem is the failure to receive the provision of redemption that come through Christ. Therefore, Jesus said on John 16:8 that the Holy Spirit has come to convict the world of only one sin – failure to believe in Him.
How can we prove that we are righteous and holy in God’s eyes? - Through the fact that the Holy Spirit has come to indwell us and abide in us forever. Before the cross, the Holy Spirit could not indwell the Old Testament believer.
Today, you are called you the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are called the holy temple of God (1 Cor 3:17). You are a new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17). When you live with the realization of who you are in Christ, you will also experience the reality of Christ in you.
