5.16 Acts – The good news of redemption through Christ reaches the end of the earth

Today, we shall show how the message of redemption through Christ reached the end of the earth. At the beginning of Acts, Jesus gave the following instruction:-

(Acts 1:8)
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in JERUSALEM, and in all JUDEA and SAMARIA, and to the END of the earth.”

After the Spirit was poured out on Pentecost, Peter preached Jesus to a crowd of people in Jerusalem and three thousand received Jesus. Then they continued sharing in the power of the Spirit and “the number of disciples multiplied greatly in JERUSALEM" (Acts 6:7).

Then persecution arose from Saul and as a result, the disciples were scattered, and they brought the message to JUDEA and SAMARIA (Acts 8:1-2). When the devil tried to contain the gospel message, it spread beyond Jerusalem. Philip the evangelist had a successful campaign in SAMARIA (Acts 8:4-8).

Miraculously, Saul, the greatest enemy of the gospel got converted after Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus. The Lord had chosen Saul (later Paul) to bring the gospel beyond Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. Jesus said that Paul is a chosen vessel to bear His name before GENTILES, Kings and the children of Israel (Acts 9:15). The Gentile world spanned the corners of the earth.

While in Antioch, the Holy Spirit commissioned Paul and Barnabas to commence their missionary journeys (Acts 13:2). Paul established many churches. His message of Christ revealed in his Epistles is still impacting the world today.

Though Paul brought the gospel beyond the shores of Israel, he did not reach the end of the earth in his lifetime. His baton was passed on to Timothy and others. There was no ending in the book of Acts because the story has not ended. For the last 2,000 years, the message of Christ has been brought to the corners of the earth by missionaries and believers. Then it finally reached you and me.

Today, the baton has been passed on to you and me. You have been given the message to be shared to your family members, your friends, and those around you. God wants to fulfill Acts 1:8 in your life through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit - just as He did in the early disciples.

Tomorrow, we will journey into the land of the Epistles, where we will receive deeper insights of the redemption work of Christ. The mystery of the gospel will finally be explained with great clarity.
